Cameron Cassidy: A Life Devoted To Astrology
Cameron Cassidy of Omegastrology and The Mercuranians TalkTalkTalks Hellenistic Astrology & the Art of Translation
Cameron Cassidy is a consulting astrologer and scholar. He’s also a yoga instructor and translator of dead and living languages. Under the moniker Omegastrology, he helps clients understand their place in the Cosmos and has created a beautiful and invaluable tool for all astrologers, the Codex Mundi, a mandala of the heavens.
On top of ALL that, he co-hosts the podcast The Mercuranians, with his pal, Stella. Despite the daunting name that I STILL can’t pronounce, their podcast offers a fun and accessible entrance into serious astrology.
This interview was conducted over email 1,001 years ago. Thanks to Cameron for being one of my first podcasts guests and helping me work out the kinks! When you’ve finished reading, check out the links at the bottom to our podcast recording.
CV Henriette: What language do you dream in?
Cameron Cassidy: English and French, sometimes Spanish
CVh: What’s your favorite language to fight in?
CC: German!
CVh: What’s your favorite time of day?
CC: When the Sun is in the 8th or 5th house.
CVh: What time do you go to bed?
CC: Usually when the Sun leaves the 5th house.
CVh: What time do you like to eat?
CC: Breakfast when the Sun is in the 11th, Lunch in the 9th, Dinner in the 7th/6th. Or during the planetary hour of the Moon.
CVh: Were you born during the day or at night? How does this show?
CC: Night. I definitely feel more comfortable in the night, more at ease and more sensitive to subtle energies. I do well getting lots of work and writing done at night.
CVh: How many languages do you speak?
CC: I have conversational proficiency in around seven languages. I have good reading proficiency in two ancient languages as well.
CVh: Pretend we’re strangers at a party. What do you do?
CC: I'll introduce myself and ask you about yourself! I love getting to know people so I’d definitely start up a chat about whatever! Maybe your outfit says something that makes me curious to talk to you- anything goes!
CVh: How does astrology work?
CC: Astrology works in whatever way we investigate it to work. If we investigate planetary cycles, we find patterns, if we investigate dividing the sky into different segments, we will find more patterns. “Astrology” means the study of the stars, but the “studying” is actually what makes it come alive. An event can happen on Earth but we could investigate a hundred different ways it may have happened astrologically. It's the act of investigation that lays the groundwork for discovery to already create an existing and observable outcome.
CVh: What’s your favorite yoga position?
CC: Balance postures. They teach us how to stabilize the body by centering the breath, the gaze and the mind into one flow. They help us bring the focus from our mat, into our daily life.
CVh: What’s exciting you? Right now.
CC: Planning adventures this summer to visit friends in the US and in Europe!
CVh: What’s the difference between being a yoga instructor and an astrologer?
CC: Being a yoga instructor teaches me about how vast and inter-connected my inner world is, and how deep my body goes inside. Being an astrologer teaches me how vast the outer world extends around me, how time connects us and binds us. Yoga illumines the outside from the inside, Astrology illumines the inside from the outside.
CVh: What’s the Codex Mundi?
CC: It is a poster, a mandala-like visual for meditation, an art piece and a teaching tool for students of astrology. It’s available on my website for anyone interested in learning more about it!
CVh: Who are the Mercuranians?
CC: The Mercuranians is a podcast co-hosted by me and my friend Stella. We are a duo of young astrologers looking to share ideas, observations and lessons from traditional astrology and make concepts digestible and accessible for all students of astrology!
CVh: What am I missing?
CC: Maybe just question about links to find me?
